Automobile Manufacturing
Quality Control Automation for Automotive Manufacturing
Digitising plant-level QC for compliance and scale
Client/Company
India’s Largest Automobile Manufacturer
Role
UX & Design Lead
Duration
5 months
Problem
The client relied on a manual, paper-based quality control (QC) process across manufacturing plants. This resulted in inefficiencies, data inconsistencies, and legal risk, making it difficult to ensure traceability, accountability, and operational transparency at scale.
Context & Constraints
The initiative involved digitizing quality control processes across multiple departments, user roles, and plant environments. The solution needed to support legally compliant documentation, work reliably in industrial conditions, and remain flexible enough to accommodate future hardware integrations.
Process
Process Discovery & Documentation
Mapped end-to-end QC workflows across departments, identifying data capture points, approval dependencies, and legal requirements. Facilitated cross-functional workshops to reconcile discrepancies between documented procedures and actual on-ground practices.
Experience Design
Designed mobile-first QC journeys for plant operators and role-specific dashboards for supervisors and managers. Defined controlled data visibility and interaction patterns to reduce cognitive load while improving accountability and traceability.
Prototyping & Validation
Developed and iteratively tested prototypes in real-world manufacturing conditions, including on representative hardware, to validate usability, durability, and workflow fit.
Outcome & Impact
Delivered a scalable digital quality control platform that reduced errors, improved process efficiency, and established a foundation for future system expansion and hardware integration.
Highlights
Digitisation of paper-based QC workflows
Role-based dashboards and data visibility
Legally compliant documentation and traceability
